Discussion Guide

Greetings Tribal Leaders,

The American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Health Research Advisory Council (HRAC) Tribal leadership is inviting you to complete the attached survey that will be used to identify health research issues, priorities and needs for AI/AN communities. The HRAC was established in 2006 under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Office of Minority Health (OMH) as a venue for consulting Tribes about health research issues and needs to identify collaborative approaches to address research priorities.

HRAC is comprised of Tribal Leaders, one representative and one alternate from each of the 12 IHS Areas, and 4 Washington-based Tribal organizations. Federal partners participate in Council activities, provide input and support, and linkages with HHS’ operating and staff divisions.

HRAC Tribal Leaders are seeking to garner community-level input in identifying health research issues, priorities and needs. Community leaders, or your designee, are invited to provide feedback on AI/AN health research. The information obtained will be used to help the Tribal Leaders to bring your Tribe’s health research priorities and concerns to HRAC.

This survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Survey responses will be compiled and shared with the Council. In order to share the information at the HRAC meeting, the Council is requesting your input no later than December 5, 2008. Please return the completed survey to your Area HRAC delegate or alternate; please see the attached membership list for contact information.

If you have questions regarding the survey please contact your Area HRAC delegate/alternate provided on the attached list or Roseanne David at or (571) 323-5660.
