Medical College of Wisconsin Highlights Its Wealth of Health Disparities and Health Equity Resources

By Clarene Mitchell, Program Manager, Health Equity and Urban Clinical Care Partnerships, Institute for Health and Society at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Medical College of Wisconsin Highlights Its Wealth of Health Disparities and Health Equity ResourcesThe Division of Health Equity and Urban Clinical Care Partnerships Exit Disclaimer in the Medical College of Wisconsin’s (MCW) Institute for Health and Society is highlighting health disparities throughout April for National Minority Health Month. The glass display case outside the MCW library features books and DVDs to reduce and/or eliminate health disparities as well as resources specifically regarding African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans and Native Americans. The books and DVDs are examples of those available in the Division’s Health Equity Resource Library Exit Disclaimer, which includes over 100 such resources that are available for local community and institutional partners. The display includes vibrant art pieces reflective of the target populations as well.

The display also promotes the eHealth Equity Alert System Exit Disclaimer. In an effort to raise awareness regarding the devastating toll of health inequities and to make science translatable to communities impacted by the disparities, the Health Equity Alerts are provided. This system includes regular health disparities related event announcements, news, research, etc. to foster broader understanding of health disparities, build commitment to the elimination of the disparities as well as identify opportunities for engagement.
