Description of organization:
The Center for Multicultural Health (CMH) is Utah's office of minority health. As part of the Utah Department of Health, CMH was created to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities. CMH accomplishes this mission by working with Utah Department of Health programs, local health departments, private providers and other state agencies to improve staff cultural competence, establish protocols and standards for language translation and interpretation and improve the collection and use of racial and ethnic data.
Description of project:
Under the Utah State Partnership Grant, CMH collaborates with Utah Department of Health programs, local health departments, community-based organizations, community groups and coalitions, universities and private providers to increase awareness of health disparities, establish a statewide plan for eliminating health disparities, and achieve parity in the areas of access, quality and CLAS Standards. Major projects include the development of online training on cultural competency, developing and implementing protocols and standards for language translation and interpretation, developing and implementing a workforce diversity plan, and providing support to the Multicultural Health Network. CMH works with local health departments to improve organizational cultural competency and quality of services to minority populations.
