Asthma and Hispanic Americans

  • In 2010, about 3,600,000 Hispanics reported that they currently have asthma.
  • Puerto Rican Americans have 2.6 times the asthma rate as compared to the overall Hispanic population.
  • Hispanics are 30 percent more likely to visit the hospital for asthma, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites..
  • Puerto Rican children are 2.4 times more likely to have asthma, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
  • Hispanic children are 40 percent more likely to die from asthma, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
