NPA Webinar Series

The NPA promotes cross-sector, multi-level, and systems-oriented approaches for tackling health disparities. The cross-sector focus of the NPA evolves from the understanding that disparities are rooted in the inequitable distribution of underlying social determinants of health (sDoH), such as education, employment, and environmental quality. The NPA envisions a path to health equity that includes changes to policies, practices, and programs over time, at multiple levels of government and across different sectors, such that the promotion of health equity becomes integral to how organizations operate.

Upcoming NPA Webinars

The NPA, its RHECs and caucuses, and national partners host webinars throughout the year on health equity-related topics.

NPA Partners Webinar Series: Heart Disease: Prevention and Access to Treatment for Minorities Featuring the National Hispanic Medical Association

Date: July 18, 2018
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Description: Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and second leading cause of death for Hispanic populations. However, heart disease is often preventable and manageable through lifestyle changes and efforts to stay heart healthy, such as engaging in physical activity; eliminating smoking; following a healthy diet; and managing cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood glucose optimally. This webinar—hosted by the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and the Office of Minority Health’s National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities (NPA)—will provide an overview of heart disease and its impact on the Hispanic community and will share findings from NHMA’s Cardiovascular Disease and Hispanics Summit Series. The webinar also will describe the need for racial and ethnic diversity in clinical trials of interventions for heart disease to ensure that communities of color have treatments that work for them.

NPA Partners Webinar Series: Diversifying the Health Workforce for an Equitable Future Featuring the National Hispanic Medical Association

Date: August 16, 2018
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Description: This webinar—presented by the National Hispanic Medical Association and the Office of Minority Health’s National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities (NPA)—will highlight strategies to diversify the health workforce in order to create a more equitable future for all. Currently, the nation’s health workforce does not reflect the diversity of the nation. A diverse health workforce—made up of individuals with a wide range of characteristics and experiences, including different races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, and sexual orientations—serves as a strategy for addressing racial and ethnic health disparities. Increasing the diversity of the health workforce can help to improve access to care in underserved communities; increase patient choice, satisfaction, and health outcomes; and enhance healthcare quality for vulnerable populations. Presenters will share their experiences, recommendations, and tools for increasing the diversity of the health workforce to meet the needs of communities of color, thereby allowing for a more positive and equitable future.
